How the SCP protocol works

That’s not my title but the one I stole from a fantastic Jan Pechanec’s blog post that describes how the SCP protocol works – https://blogs.oracle.com/janp/entry/how_the_scp_protocol_works I really encourage everyone to read it.

OpenIndiana

Finally, OpenIndiana has found its place in my VirtualBox environment. Very hope, that I would have enough time to play with it. Anyway, it’s nice to have it as a Solaris reference.

Fork Yeah! The Rise and Development of illumos

Oh gosh, I truly love the way Bryan Cantrill runs his public speeches/presentation. Purely amazing, full of energy, fun and endlessness positiveness shines through out his talks. And of course, they’re always full of the info one can’t find anywhere else. Highly recommended.

Finally got something to read

Hurray! Just received a long awaited DTrace: Dynamic Tracing in Oracle Solaris, Mac OS X and FreeBSD book. From the very begining, even before I had pre-ordered it from Amazon, I knew it would be another great work made by Brendad Gregg and Jim Mauro. And I wasn’t mistaken. If you don’t trust me I […]

Jumped into Oracle Solaris 11 Express wagon

It’s not the news anymore that Oracle Solaris 11 Express has been released. Unsurprisingly it turned out to be a trivial task to upgrade from OpenSolaris (snv 134) and it was just a matter of updating the publisher and do usual image-update: Some time later:

Oracle Secure Backup

In preparation to a possible trip that will never happen I had to go through the configuration steps of Oracle Secure Backup to be able to do it quickly and professionally on-site. Since I didn’t have a spare tape library to play with I used a built-in tape drive from D240 box and SF6900 as […]

Orphaned Dtrace, Fishworks and ZFS

First it was Bryan Cantrill and then Adam Leventhal who followed. After that the exodus had continued by Jeff Bonwick and Mike Shapiro both leaving Oracle. But today another big name from Sun Microsystems has closed the Oracle’s door – Brendan Gregg is leaving today and all we have been left with is a new […]

How to replace a PCIE card in Sun Cluster

I’ve just returned from a quick trip to Nizhniy Novgorod where I had to replace a PCIE card, it was an ethernet adapter (e1000g). Not a big deal, sure, but the tricky part lied in the fact that this card was a part of Sun Cluster setup so I had deliberately chosen a slippery path […]

Permanent memory’s riddle

Several days ago I noticed that something wrong was happening with the way cfgadm reported the size of the permanent memory. On a partitioned SunFire 6900 iron with two SBs (SB0 and SB2) in a domain the output looks the following: I don’t believe in coincidences and the fact that permanent memory was equal to […]
